Dr. Barsoum is an Associate Professor in Mechanical Engineering at the Petroleum Institute, Abu Dhabi, UAE. He received his M.Sc. degree 2002 in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, USA and his Ph.D. degree 2008 in Solid Mechanics from the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden. He has worked extensively with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) in several industries with many years of experience in conducting FEA.

He is author of many scientific journal and conference papers in the subject and is frequently consulted by several industries for his expertise in FEA. He has been involved in several root cause failure investigation of subsea large diameter plastic pipes in the Gulf region, as well as design and analysis of onshore buried plastic pipes such systems, analysis of Kevlar reinforced flexible composite liners.

Roger has many years’ experience of water, sewerage and sewage treatment installations in the Gulf region. He has presented several papers around the world on the use of plastics pipes in utility and industrial applications. These have illustrated the particular benefits of large diameter polyolefin pipes such as HDPE and PP.

Although officially 'Retired’, Roger maintains an interest in ongoing projects and industry developments.
